Academic Pashin, Russian designation Project 23130, is a replenishment oiler developed by the Spetssudoproect JSC and built by the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard for the Russian Navy. The class is limited only by one vessel, Academic Pashin itself, and is succeeded by a series of larger Project 23131 replenishment oilers based on the Project 23130 design. It is the first replenishment ship built for the Russian Navy since the end of the Cold War.
The construction of Academic Pashin was carried out under a state contract for the Russian Defence Ministry, signed in November 2013. The ship was laid down on 26 May 2014 during a keel lying ceremony at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard in Shlisselburg and was first scheduled for delivery in late 2016.
On 18 March 2016, the hull of the ship was rolled out of the construction hall, to start pre-finishing works before its launching on the water. It was launched on 26 May 2016, and all further work on the ship continued afloat.
In June 2017, Academic Pashin was seen docked at the Nevsky Shipbuilding and Repair Plant with its main deck nearing the completion.
On 17 May 2018, Academic Pashin started its sea trials in the Ladoga Lake.
In September 2018, the ship arrived in Kronstadt. It was to join the Russian Navy by the year end.
In early 2019, it still continued the state trials in the Baltic Sea, where the ship interaction with deck helicopters was worked out. As part of the trials, Ka-27PS helicopters were delivering various cargoes to the ship and back to the shore.Academic Pashin compelted the trials in late June 2019.
The commissioning of the ship is now scheduled for 3Q 2019.
Academic Pashin represents a medium-sized sea tanker with a strengthened steel double-hull of the Arc 4 class, for operations in the Arctic conditions. The ship is approximately 130 m (430 ft) long, 22 m (72 ft) wide and has a maximum draught of 7 m (23 ft). The service life of the ships hull and pipelines is estimated at 40 years. When fully loaded, it could displace about 14,000 tons while carrying about 7,350 tons of various liquids in its onboard storage tanks as well as some dry cargoes. It could transport for example 3,000 tons of fuel oil, 2,500 tons of diesel fuel, 500 tons of jet fuel, 150 tons of lubricating oil, 1,000 tons of fresh water or additionally 100 tons of dry cargo such as food and spare parts to a distance of 8,000 mi (13,000 km) at a top speed of 16 kn (30 km/h; 18 mph). The total deadweight of the ship is 9,000 tons at maximal draught. The ship was named after the Hero of the Russian Federation Valentin Pashin.
